Erika observes the condition of the skin, toenails, and feet before beginning care. This helps identify the client’s individual needs and any concerns that may require additional attention.
Toenail and skin care is completed gently and professionally. The care provided depends on the condition of the client’s feet, their comfort, and what is appropriate during the visit.
The client may receive practical guidance about daily foot care, footwear, moisturizing, monitoring for changes, and when to contact another healthcare professional.
Foot care needs vary from person to person. After the appointment, Erika can discuss an appropriate schedule and help arrange the next visit.
The Nursing Foot Assessment
Nursing foot care involves more than simply trimming toenails. Before beginning care, the nurse observes the feet for changes or concerns that may otherwise be difficult for the client to notice.
The assessment may include observing:
- The condition and thickness of the toenails
